Why Is It Called Polishing Arrows?

Are you wondering about the site’s name? What does Polishing Arrows mean? Why would I call anything that? Am I into archery or something? (That answer is no because I’ve never done it.)

I have sat on this name and idea for a few years now. It stems from the concept that the Bible refers to children as arrows. In Psalms 127 it says:

“Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.”

Psalm 127: 3-5

Soon after I began pondering this idea of children are arrows, the pastor of the church we were members of at the time gave a wonderful sermon on this exact passage. (Funny how that happens, isn’t it?!) He explained about 3 different stages of these arrows – creation, preparing, then sending them to their mark. If you apply this to children, God created them at conception, then after 9 months, give or take, he releases them to us. We then spend their childhoods preparing them for life. We are trying to keep them straight, practicing what to do in life, and helping them to reach their mark. How do we know where that mark is? It’s given to us in God’s Word. The Bible tells us how to live our lives and that we should be living for Him. The bullseye we are aiming for is a life for Him and sharing what Jesus did for us. Parenting is polishing those arrows, preparing them for shooting them off on their own to hit their mark.

So, as a mother, I’m to get my little arrows ready academically, socially, physically, mentally, and every other -ally that comes along the way. I make many mistakes along the way, but I wanted a place to share things we do! Some things you can look for are how to run a house with six kiddos, our homeschooling resources and journey, activities we do, handicrafts we learn, info on a food allergy/Celiac household, and maybe some thoughts on scriptures and how they apply to me as a mother and a wife. I hope this blog can encourage you, or provide entertainment if nothing else. No doubt we could use a little of both. I have no schedule in mind but to post as life happens and when I’m not too busy living it. (Can you believe I get too busy to spend a few minutes online sometimes???) Things will come as the thoughts and time allow. I hope it’s a blessing to you!

Oh, and if you would like, sign up for my email list on the homepage! It’s free! I have no idea what I’ll be sending out, but you would be the first to get anything when I do!
