Do you know Jesus as your Savior? If not, did you know that you won’t be able to go to heaven? Or maybe you don’t even know what that means? (I was there once!)

I know the questions above may sound so cliché, but it’s very true. This may be a bit basic but here’s how I explain it to my kids:

Let’s say that you want to get into a carnival. You don’t have any money, though. BUT Jesus has already bought everyone a ticket! He’s standing at the entrance, ready to hand them out. You just have to find Him (which isn’t hard because He’s right in front of you). Once you find him, you just have to realize that you couldn’t get in without Jesus paying your way. Nothing you could say or do would get you through that gate besides that ticket from Jesus. Yes, this is very basic, but I’m explaining it to children under 10 so it works for them to begin to understand this concept.

Ok, so now reality: Jesus is the only one who could pay for our way into heaven. We all are sinners as it says in Romans 3:23 (“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”). We have lied, cheated, stolen, thought murderous thoughts, been covetous, had idols that replaced God, and on and on. Maybe you haven’t done everything the God says is sin, but any sin makes you a sinner.

God says the penalty of being a sinner is death. That’s our punishment. That’s what we deserve, no matter how much good you do on this earth. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death…” Don’t get confused here – we are all going to die an earthly death. This death I’m talking about is the spiritual one. So is all lost now? Thankfully, I can tell you NO, it is not!

The Good News is that God sent His only begotten son Jesus to pay this penalty. He is the only one who can pay for our sins so we do not have to pay the price ourselves. The full verse of Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

You see, Jesus came to earth to pay this penalty for us. He died in our place. He allowed us to now have a way to get to heaven to be with Him forever. We just have to acknowledge that and go to Him in acceptance of that payment. Once you do, He will then be your Savior, too!
