If you are gluten-free, it can become stressful to think of how you’ll do certain activities. When you are a born-again Christian and want to obey the ordinance to observe the Lord’s Supper, it can bring on even more stress! It doesn’t have to be stressful, though! If you have Celiac Disease, or other food allergies or intolerances that are present in the items provided at church, you do have options!
For us, we currently have two children that need to take the Lord’s Supper and cannot have the church provided supplies to do so – my Celiac girl and one with a wheat allergy. I used to take a small lunch box with a box of safe juice then a plastic bag with a few of the gluten free bread pieces. I would then go to a safe place outside of the sanctuary, pour the juice into a plastic cup like everyone else’s then get the cracker in a paper towel or napkin to hand to my kiddos. This was a bit of a hassle, to be honest, but one worth doing. Was there a better way for us, though?
That answer is YES! I decided to look for a portable communion set and found one on Amazon, of course. Our set works out wonderfully! I comes with a small plastic container for liquids, a round plastic container for the bread, and a place for the small plastic cups (with cups included!).

I am now able to pour their juice into the cups and get their bread pieces out in our seats. I was concerned that the plastic container for the juice would drip down the side of the container as I poured it, but there was no dripping at all. It was a clean pour!
As a bonus on the set, the holder for all of the pieces lifts out, so I put hand wipes and napkins in the bottom, just in case they’re needed. They did not prevent the lid from closing or impact use of it at all.

This set was a great add for our family in that it made it easy to fill the pieces with what we needed, then slip it into my purse. Super convenient!
There is more than one set of travel communion sets, but I decided on this one due to good reviews. It also looked like it had a larger bottle container for the juice, which I have to think about if I have more than one person needing some. I was worried about having a place to put enough for 2-4 people, as it’s needed.
I love as well that I can teach Sophie how to handle her Celiac for when she’s older. She’ll be able to continue obeying the Lord’s commandment of observing the Lord’s Supper in an easy, non-hassle way!
Having this set up allowed for me to focus on what we need to be focusing on instead of trying to figure out how to get my kids their proper, safe items. It allows me to put the focus back on Christ and His sacrifice for me.
(If you’re needing gluten-free bread wafers, we use this one with great success!)
