Multiple Kids and the Toothbrush Dilemma

I am not a decorator. That much is obvious if you look at my home. Most of it is just practical pieces around my home not necessarily for great decoration.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about toothbrushes. I know that doesn’t seem to go along with decorating conversation but for our kids’ toothbrushes, they sit out on the counter so it becomes part of the decor in the main bathroom of our home. With my kids, we had all of their toothbrushes in one container for a while. It was nice when I first purchased it, but has been bugging me with how worn it looks lately. A while back, my daughter (with Celiac) asked to move her toothbrush to another container with just her own toothbrush and her own toothpaste since her brothers were eating foods with gluten from time to time. Of course, this made sense when she brought it up, so she had hers in a cup on the other side of the sink. This has been working great, despite how it looked.

Having all of the boys’ toothbrushes together began to bother me, though. It just seems so unhygienic! Their toothbrushes are up against each other, using the same tube of toothpaste…just yuck! So I brainstormed ideas on how to fix this for several children and finally decided on a fix to try.

Let me state that putting them in a cabinet or something enclosed is really the best place but we don’t have one available in our main bathroom the kids use.

Anyway, here are the before pictures of how it was set up.

Toothbrush holder for the boys.
Toothbrush holder for my daughter.

And here is my solution for after:

For the boys.
For my daughter.

For this, I ordered from Amazon a set of 6 tall mason jars. I found a larger jar with the wooden lid at Hobby Lobby to use for flossers. The ear swab holder I had already from The Container Store. The plastic boxes were from Hobby Lobby as well. The colored bands are from Amazon and had only 6 colors available. (If you have multiple children, I highly recommend color coding their items. It makes life so much easier at times!)

I’m loving this! I feel it definitely helps keep it more clean for each person’s toothbrush, especially since they can now have their own tubes of toothpaste as well. It’s not super design-y and stylish, but it’s very practical and not an eye sore. The kids all like it as well. An additional bonus is that it all is easy to clean. That’s a win on its own to me!

Do you have a fantastic idea of how to organize toothbrushes for multiple kids? I’d love to see what you’ve come up with and what you do with them! I’d this doesn’t work out, I could use another idea.
